Fiesta 2006 was truly a place where kids were fired up about Jesus’ love! The
party theme and music were infectious and everyone loved the Congo lines and
salsa rhythms during Sing and Play Ole. Of course, every year there is one
surprise that the children love. This year a piñata – a work of art in itself -
dropped the daily treasure verse, in English and Spanish, from different
locations in the sanctuary.
Fiesta goers were also encouraged to live out their faith by the daily
challenges; which allowed them to minister to or share the previous days’
message with others. Their participation was monitored by placing a “brick” on a
beautiful mission church in the front of the sanctuary.
Hot Bible Adventures allowed children to become part of the daily Bible message
with activities like fishing with nets, witnessing Lazarus’ return to his family
or unlocking the keys to a deeper relationship with Jesus. The crafts in Cactus
Crafts were a hit – especially the Boppaloons! The tambourines and “Follow the
Leader” streamers waving during the Fiesta Finale looked beautiful. Grande Games
was an outlet for excess energy and was missed on Thursday night when we used an
adapted schedule to hide from the torrential rain and lightning! Vida Explorers
gave the kids some down time where they could concentrate on the treasure verse
and consider the application of the message in their lives. Crews also
participated in games like fishing for their Bible buddies.
This year we participated in the International Bible Society’s “Blanket the
world with Jesus’ love” by making soft and snuggly blankets that will find their
way, with a Spanish Bible book containing the messages covered during Fiesta, to
children in the mountainous regions of South America.
As always Annalee and her snack crew provided a sweet diversion at Maraca
Munchies; but with that many kids in a small space we know why we keep snack
time to ten minutes! Of course, our celebration Sunday and barbecue were well
attended by members, as well as visitors. I love this event, because it allows
our members to see how their support and prayers materialize in the lives of the
community and how blessed we all are by God’s love and joy.
This year about ten percent of the children were new attendees from the
neighborhood and another ten percent were invited by the previous years’ crews.
Many children have grown up in Trinity’s VBS over the last five years and have
gone from attendees to assistants to crew leaders and even station leaders. It
has been wonderful to watch this transformation. We have also seen an increase
in the numbers of Trinity’s members who are involved, compared to relying mostly
on members from others congregations in the early years. A group of eight people
from two different congregations have consistently been involved in the
planning, preparation and execution of our annual Vacation Bible School and for
this we are continuously grateful and blessed.
Finally, our leadership team is also planning to keep in touch with the children
through monthly mailings and activities on our website – so be on the look out
for your mail person towards the end on the month!
The Fiesta team would like to thank Trinity for all the generous support, help,
prayers and donations. Without you we would never be able to reach out to our
community in this way each year. We wish you a blessed year and pray that you
remain fired up about Jesus’ every day.
